oh what a day!

i cant really go into all of it [lazy] but suffice to say the shots will be great, i had an amazing dinner (made up for the theme-park grade burger i had for lunch), and just really enjoyed everything about today except cold feet and traffic gridlocked with moronic drivers.

here is a tiny taste of what today was:

already really tired, but on the up swing it seems the shots for tomorrow went from "meh" to "oh, cool," all in the course of a zoo tour.

incidentally, i dont normally enjoy zoos but this one [indianapolis] is pretty solid. even in winter it made me pretty happy. i saw a polar bear swim, as well as dolphins, sea lions, and a walrus. i saw meerkats, bird things, lizard and turtle things, and a few big ass elephants. i even got to pet alls up on one of them. Tombi. thats her name. petted her side, felt the soft part of her ear. it was pretty great.

ended up taking a weird rz shot of a video chat. stupid, sure..but different i guess. for me. i know of only one picture like ive taken and it was less of a portrait. no need to understand what i am talking about.

these are the people i am working closely with for this big project. on the left is mandy and marion from slaughter group and then comes jason and chatham who are with me. jason is assisting and chatham is doing style (makeup, props, etc)

slowly getting more exhausted. so so much to do starting the beginning of next week. two shoots here in the city, one in indianapolis, one in DC, one in georgia, south carolina, florida, and missouri. should be done by the first week of march.

i am letting myself slide today with a photo of myself feeling really tired. i was going to post an image of matthew mayfield again from more i edited for him but i'll be getting the film back soon so i figured i'd wait for that.

today was pretty long. i went to bed at midnight, woke up sharply at 4 am paranoid of over sleeping on the first shooting day for the february project. slept again but had to get up a bit after 5 anyway. but i feel great about the day..i can't WAIT to see the film. i love the rz. it feels so solid.


today's shoot was of these two brothers (mostly of the kid in the blue / green) out at lake martin.

please consider this image a placeholder until the film gets back--its a digital shot meant as a daily to show the client. the film stuff is going to look amazing.

also, i am watching the shawshank redemption AGAIN. or finishing it anyway. i can really watch it at the drop of a hat.

so yesterday was a blast and i'm sending the film out today to be returned to me in a fortnight. cant wait to see how it comes out

tomorrow starts the first day of shooting for the big feb project. i cant decide if i am going to post dailies from that or other work that is unrelated. i suppose it doesnt matter a ton.

well the film didnt ship from LA until friday which put me off a bit, but what am i going to do? i have two rolls of true bw i need to get run but i dont even know where i can in town this week. [its one of these rolls that contains a football flying at my face]

tonight ill shoot various super bowl related things...possibly even with a flash. gasp.

the photo i took today may end up being really boring but i was compelled to take it nonetheless. a while back i had an incidental conversation with the guy who owns the property on which The Garage operates and it seems he used to be a an architect or some such and was responsible for building what ended up being the first gay and lesbian church (his words...i dont know exactly what that means). anyone familiar enough with this city would probably know it at site. its the crazy looking, blue, a-frame church on montclair as you approach the backside of crestline. anyway...they are tearing it down though i couldnt say i know why. most of its gone and the 40 foot section of blue ribcage that is left is strangely upsetting. it seems so dramatic to be sticking so far up in the air in the middle of plowed-down dirt and cleared trees like a beached whale picked clean or a burnt down shanty town. i dont really know anything about the place other than hearing this one guys story but it was enough to at least make me notice the building's destruction. either way its what i shot today.

on to today's post. today will be a rare occasion where there are two photos. the first is today's actual shot and the second is for bryan so he can write his Super Bowl blog entry using either / both of the shots

sküp (bryan's brother, phil) and beeje recently got amazing, small "replicas" of nfl helmets. heres an old school style shot of them posing with the ball (for no apparent reason), as well as sküp in the car, looking a bit too intense and long-faced. also note that the beverage in his hand is a La Croix.
